Previously mentioned in our What's in the Post entry, we purchased this previously opened set secondhand from an online seller. The second set produced by Lego after the 10182 Cafe Corner, the 10190 Market Street was created by a Lego fan. Similar to the 10218 Pet Shop, the Market Street comes in two independent parts - the Market Place and the Building.

Given that this Lego set was designed by a fan, its design is significantly simpler than its predecessor and the sets after it in the Modular Building series: 10185 Green Grocer, 10197 Fire Brigade, 10211 Grand Emporium and 10218 Pet Shop. At 1248 pieces, the Market Street is about half as large as the other Modular Buildings, as evidenced by the relatively bare Market Place.

The Market Street comes with 3 minifigs - way too few to play on its own. The interior of the Building is as bare as the Market Place (do check out the pictures by clicking "Read more" below). In terms of design, the building is aesthetically ordinary while the building experience was short and easy; the reason why we took so long to post this entry after receiving the set in the post was because we had to buy replacement parts for several missing pieces.

Overall, we feel that the Market Street is a sincere effort by a fan to design a Modular Building, but it would be fair to say that we have definitely seen more elaborate and jaw-dropping MOCs. The Market Street definitely cannot be played as a standalone Modular Building, so we recommend that collectors display it with the other buildings in the series - may we suggest the more colourful ones like the 10197 Fire Brigade and 10218 Pet Shop to add more vibrancy to the Modular Town. Not one of the more exciting builds, but one that is no less important to a Modular Building series collection.

Well, we'll stop here for the summary of this set. For more commentary and pictures on the individual parts - Market Place and the Building - do read the full post. Otherwise, do stay tuned while we post prepare our next entry - adding the 10190 Market Street to our growing Modular Town! :)

What's In the Post #4: 10182 Cafe Corner

At long last!!!

What could it be? :)

Second layer: bubble wrap!

Third layer: cardboard... How much longer must we wait?!

Presenting... The 10182 Cafe Corner!!!!

Front view - secondhand opened set purchase, so wear and tear is to be expected!

Back view of the Cafe Corner!
We bought this set secondhand from Ebay at a reasonable price; being the first Modular building (released in 2007), the Cafe Corner's value has gone up with time. With this purchase, we now have a complete set of Modular Buildings (in chronological order of production):

Well, that's all from us for now. As always, stay tuned for our posts on the 10190 Market Street (we are waiting for our replacement parts), the 10182 Cafe Corner, and the growing Lego Modular Town!

Goodbye to our Lego Taj Mahal #10189...

  • Model: 10189 Taj Mahal
  • 5922 Pieces
  • Released in 2008
  • Retail price: $249.99 USD

We initially bought a set of the Taj Mahal as we wanted it to complement our Modular Town. (By the way, we are close to completing our seventh Lego project, 10190 Market Street - we are waiting for the replacements to several missing pieces to arrive. Stay tuned!) However, considering that there are space constraints for such a large set and that we found that the Taj did not match well with the town or our two ships, we made a decision to let it go.

Let's take a closer look at our Lego set.

Goodbye to our Medieval Market Village #10193...

  • Model: 10193 Medieval Market Village
  • 1601 Pieces
  • Released in 2009
  • Retail price: $99.99 USD
Last month, we put up the Medieval Market Village for sale; today we are glad to post an entry on letting it go.

Let's take a closer look at our Lego set.

Medieval Market Village 10193

Front view of the Medieval Market Village!
Back view of the set. Comes with 8 minifigs and many animals!
The Medieval Market Village is part of the Castle series. With 8 minifigs (2 soldiers, 2 male peasants, 2 female peasants, a blacksmith and a boy) and farm animals (cows, horse, rooster and duck), it makes for a great play set by itself, but it would probably be much more fun if combined with #7946 King's Castle to form a complete kingdom. Displaywise, just take a look at the box and decide for yourself if it makes a good decoration in the living room!

Well, that's all for now. Time to remove the set from our collection!

Little Yellow Brick Pick #3 - 853195 Brick Calendar

We bought this today! :)

853195 Brick Calendar

Completed Brick Calendar. Comes with two minifigs - a cheerleader and a skateboarder!

The Lego Brick Calendar was released in June 2011; at the time of this publication, all specialist Lego stores except Toy Station have run out of stock (be warned, Toy Station has only around 30 boxes left!)

This calendar is probably one of the simplest structures Lego will ever create. This colourful calendar makes a cheerful display in the living room or office desk. Perhaps one of the improvements Lego could have on this set is the whole point of this calendar - the day blocks. Each block has to be added manually to the red layers, which means that most of this calendar has to be taken apart every 30 days or so.

Lastly, the Calendar comes with two minifigs - a cheerleader and a skateboarder. While they may not be totally relevant to a calendar, they sure will come in handy in our Modular town. Well, we'll stop here for now. Stay tuned for our other building posts - Market Street, Grand Carousel and Winter Village Toy Shop! :)

What's In The Post #3: 853340 Wedding Table Decoration Set

Look what arrived in the mail last night!!!!

853340 Wedding Table Decoration Set

The bride comes with changeable hair colours and a hair veil!

The Lego wedding table decoration set contains 24 pieces and was first spotted at Legoland California in 2011. It was briefly sold in Singapore late last month before it was all snapped up! Although we made a reservation for a set, we were informed that the stocks will not be arriving in Singapore anytime soon. Thankfully, we managed to get a set online from a fellow Lego blogger.

Well, there wouldn't be photos of the completed set as it is now in the cupboard for safekeeping.
Hope to share the photos with everyone on the day our Lego wedding decoration makes its debut! :)

What's In the Post #2: 10190 Market Street

Well, before we get all excited about the latest addition to our collection, let us take a moment to celebrate Little Yellow Brick crossing the 1,000 pageview mark today! Thank you all for your support, and we hope you will continue to visit this blog and recommend others to do so as well! Lastly, we hope that the flag counter also keeps rising! :)

Alrighty, we shall not digress from the main topic...

Look what arrived today!!!

Moments before it was opened!

10190 Market Street

Here it is!!!

Back view of the Market Street. Being a secondhand opened set, the box is understandably slightly damaged. But it's ok! :)

We managed to snap this really good deal just over a week ago; however, this previously opened set comes with three missing pieces. Not a problem though - we will be hunting for the missing pieces to complete the building!

Designed by a Lego fan, 10190 Market Street is the second set in Lego's Modular Building series after 10182 Cafe Corner. Released by Lego in 2007, the Market Street is relatively hard to find nowadays, so we are very happy and grateful to get a set!

We are now left with 10182 Cafe Corner to complete our Modular Town. Well, it's about time to remove the Market Street from our wishlist! Stay tuned for our post on building the 10190 Market Street!
